Independent Living Means Setting Goals

Rocio is a high school senior with goals.  Her marching band at Prescott High School was invited to perform in London and she set a goal to make the trip.  "My foster mom took me to practice and my CASA helped me get to London," says Rocio, who adds that London was the 'best experience she's ever had."

Rocio wants to graduate from high school this spring so she's taking seven classes at school plus two online classes.  "I started my senior year in Prescott and I want to graduate from there," says Rocio.

Recently Rocio achieved another goal when she moved out of her foster home and into her own apartment on her 18th birthday.  She learned the skills she needed to achieve this goal by participating in Arizona's Children Association independent living program in Prescott.  "I learned so much about budgeting and setting goals," says Rocio.  "I feel ready to live on my own."

Finally, Rocio wants to go to nursing school so she can 'be able to help someone else, the way nurses helped her mom when she was dying.'   With her track record of setting goals and achieving them, we're confident we'll be updating you down the road about Rocio's college graduation.
