APRIL IS SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS MONTH

The Southern Arizona Center Against Sexual Assault and The Las Familias' Angel Center for the Treatment of Childhood Sexual Abuse are dedicated to working with survivors of sexual violence from childhood through adulthood in Pima County.

While SACASA holds events and trainings throughout the year, many are held in April to mark Sexual Assault Awareness month.  If you have any questions about these events, e-mail SACASA at sacasainfo@arizonaschildren.org.

April 6, 13, 20, & 27:   Clinically Speaking: Sexual Trauma and Mental Health Services Brown Bag Lunch Series. 1:00-2:00pm.  This drop-in, brown bag lunch series will focus on enhancing the community’s knowledge about sexual trauma.  Who should come? Any professional in the community who may serve survivors of sexual violence. Call 520.327.1171 for more details.

April 7:   Founding Members Reception. 4:00-5:30pm.  Imagine a world with no crisis response or support services for survivors of sexual violence. On April 7, hear the founding members of SACASA talk about how they changed the world. You'll learn about the history of Southern Arizona's rape crisis movement from its beginnings as Women Against Rape through the Tucson Rape Crisis Center to the present-day Southern Arizona Center Against Sexual Assault . This is a rare opportunity to honor the mothers of our movement and reflect on how far we've come--and how far we have to go.

April 10: Voices for Children Benefit with Flesh Factor & More, The Rock, 136 N. Park Avenue, Tucson.  Cost: $7, $5 for military!  Fundraising  poker run, motorcycle show, and concert to END child abuse. www.rocktucson.com

April 13: Survivor Support Network Poker Tournament & Silent Auction. McMahon's Prime Steakhouse The private poker tournament requires membership in the Survivor Support Network.  If you're not playing in the tournament encourage you to come participate in the silent auction and dine at McMahon's, a great supporter of SACASA services.

 

April 13: Tucson Community Take Back the Night 2010.

6pm-8:30pm. Armory Park.  

Take Back the Night is an annual community event demanding an end to sexual violence, accountability for offenders, and support for survivors.  The event includes a Survivors' Speak-Out, music and performances, a display of the Clothesline Project, information fair and other activities.  Visit http://www.sacasa.org/takebackthenight.htm for more information.

April 21: Denim Day.  On Denim Day, wear your jeans as a visible sign of protest against the myths that still surround sexual assault!  Sign up your office to donate $1-$5 per person – proceeds will benefit the programs of the Center. 

April 21: Dine Out for Safety.  This year for the first time, restaurants in Yuma and Phoenix will be participating in the annual "Dine out for Safety" event.   You're invited to visit one of our participating restaurants who will generously donate up to 20 percent of their day’s proceeds to support our work   Visit dineoutforsafety.com to see a full list of participating restaurants.

April 29: Su Voz Vale 12th Anniversary Celebration & Art Design Contest Reception: 4:30pm-6:30pm, Revolutionary Grounds Books and Coffee, 606 North 4th Avenue The Su Voz Vale – Your Voice Counts program invites the community to the grand unveiling of artwork chosen to be the new logo for the program, and to celebrate 12 years of service.  Come meet the artist and staff, enjoy light snacks and learn more about this program that serves the Latino/Hispano community.
