A Golden Gate Mother's Day Celebration

The second annual Golden Gate Mother's Day celebration brought together moms from every program at Golden Gate – seniors, Head Start, aerobics, health, community, recreation, KARE and adult education – for a day of fun, food and entertainment.

One mom at the event described it as "So many smiles. So much fun."  The gymnasium was transformed and there was food, mariachis, raffle prizes, a goodie bag for every mom, an inspirational talk from Mirna Pineda, award winning journalist and news producer from Seminares Avante, and a demonstration of capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian art form that combines elements of martial arts, music, and dance, by Grupo Axe Capoeira.

The mothers in our community give to their children, give to their extended families and give to Golden Gate," said Phyllis Habib, director of GGCC.  "This is an opportunity for us to give to them."  Thanks to the Golden Gate Guild for a donation that gave every woman a manicure and pedicure in their take home bag, Zuleyka Aguilar, a Promotoras de Bienestar at GGCC, who ran her first event with style and grace and the GGCC staff and their husbands, mothers, partners and children who pitched in to help at the event.
