June 2010

Dear Supporters,

You will read in this issue of In Touch about a project by United Health Care at Golden Gate Community Center and a new foster care program to serve the unique needs of the Gila River Indian Community.  Yes, Arizona’s Children Association is a large, statewide organization, with programs and services in every county in the state. At the same time, we are a small, responsive organization that understands the unique needs of each local community in which we work.  We approach our work individual by individual and community by community.

At Golden Gate, with input and guidance from the Golden Gate community, we have developed a health care program that tackles the challenges of delivering health care to this one of a kind community.

In Yuma, we have relationship with John Boemer, a local bottler who established the John Boemer Golf Tournament for us 13 years ago and has raised in excess of $360,000 over the years to fund the founding of the Yuma KARE Center and support other local programs.  The commitment to John’s tournament by John, his family, friends and the volunteers who support the effort each year is unduplicated in Arizona.

In the mid-Central Region, our foster care workers have been diligent in understanding the special requirements of the Gila River Indian Community, which will result in more children in family foster care, a much better alternative for children than living in a contracted shelter, sometimes for years.

Wherever you live in Arizona, we are working hard in your community to raise funds that will stay in your community to provide services for your friends and neighbors. I invite you to get involved with AZCA and take on the needs in your community as a volunteer, a donor, or both.

Sincerely,

Fred Chaffee
