Arizona’s Children Association joins the global #GivingTuesday movement and pledges to “Give Hope to Healing” by raising funds to help support our Fostering Sustainable Connections program.

Arizona’s Children Association (AzCA) has joined #GivingTuesday on November 29th, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the US) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.

As one of the oldest and largest child welfare and behavioral health nonprofit agencies in Arizona, we provide a variety of programs and services to meet the needs of more than 30,000 children, youth and families each year. This year for #GivingTuesday, our focus is to “Give Hope to Healing” by raising money to support the Fostering Sustainable Connections program.

Fostering Sustainable Connections (FSC) works with children and teens who live in group homes to identify and reconnect the youth with their natural support network. For those who are in foster care for several years, loss of connections is an inevitable result that has a damaging effect on the youth as they transition to adulthood. The Family Engagement Specialist (FES) identifies and makes direct contact with the youth’s extended network to reel in those who are willing to take on a permanent role in the youth’s life. While working with the extended network in the background, the FES spends time with the youth to process their family background and provide normalizing experiences that they often do not have while living in a group home. Funds raised on #GivingTuesday will support FSC so that staff can continue to provide normalizing recreational experiences and meals for the child.

“Our agency is incredibly grateful of the individuals, families, and organizations that have stood alongside us to make a difference for Arizona’s children and families,” said Jacob Schmitt, president and CEO of AzCA. “Your funds are put to work in the most fiscally resourceful ways to provide the best possible outcomes. It is through our amazing supporters, and efforts like #GivingTuesday, that we are able to make a lasting difference in the life of every child that comes through our doors.”
