Honoring Our Staff

Four times a year, Arizona’s Children Association’s employees nominate two of their fellow colleagues and one supervisor whom represent exceptional qualities in the areas of passion of purpose, quality service, collaboration and respect for all. Their efforts and service prove to be invaluable to AzCA and its mission. Nominees from the first quarter are as follows: Lena Bess, David Quist, and Mary Ledezma. Below are words of endearment from their nominations.

Lena Bess, Resource Home Licensing Investigator, is said to have “strength in her ability to listen to families with an open mind. She consistently addresses issues with families in a transparent and honest manner. She has tough conversations in a manner that maintains the family’s dignity while pointing out areas of improvement. Families understand that she is there in the best interest of the children and their family unit. Lena also addresses children in a straightforward manner and is able to develop rapport very quickly. People know that Lena is sincere when she interacts with them.”

David Quist, Resource Family Specialist, “embodies the true spirit of both team player and partner. He goes well beyond the call of duty, collaborating with other departments and programs to ensure the success and strength of the entire organization. David volunteered to serve on a planning committee for a high-profile development event, that certainly went beyond his role and job description. This involved evening meetings and outside planning. His expertise and passion for AzCA contributed to the event’s success. David also, on his own energy and time, organizes our Tucson “Food Truck Fridays,” which builds employee morale and cohesiveness. We now have ongoing positive relationships with vendors outside of AzCA who know more about the work we do, and are happy to serve our employees on a regular basis.”

Mary Ledezma, Program Supervisor, “is exceptional and inspiring, and really and truly leads by example. She is able to always remain professional and positive. She is very relatable and supportive. She shows a genuine interest in employees and their cultural background. She is always eager to learn more about others and always willing to listen. She is able to celebrate the diversity within our group. She is also able to draw out the strengths in people and help them to really utilize those strengths to be successful.”

Each of these individuals have gone above and beyond, gaining respect and building comradery amongst their team. It is because of their dedication to our mission and fundamental work ethic that truly makes AzCA Arizona’s best resource for helping children and families. Thank you Lena, David and Mary for your service and congratulations on your nomination as employees of the quarter and supervisor of quarter, respectfully!
