To celebrate Pride Month and the LGBTQIA+ youth served by Arizona’s Children Association’s Young Adult Services, we hosted a “Pride Party” over the weekend! It was a great opportunity to bring the youth together to celebrate our differences and connect over delicious food and fun activities, which hasn’t been possible since before the pandemic.
Among the festivities, there was food donated by Pita Jungle that consisted of hummus, pita, and salad for everyone to enjoy.
Arizona Health Partnership had a table at the event and gave out resources for sexual health, and Jennifer Barrueta, joined the event to lead a sound healing meditation.
Makiaj Beauty Salon provided a makeup artist for makeovers at the event to boost confidence in our young adults, as well as provided free cosmetics and gift bags that included a free haircut and color for the summer!
Sayyora Demornay, a public figure and drag entertainer who represents the Latinx community, had an opportunity to perform and host a Q&A session that was both fun and enlightening.
Selena Luna Shane, who is Miss Phoenix Junior Pride, also joined us and helped out during the event. There were a few different crafts, including the “Handprint on AzCA’s Heart,” which worked on building a strong connection with their peers and themselves!
AzCA values differences and aims to support and welcome every individual who comes through our doors. Opportunities and events like this provide added resources and additional guidance that aid in the long-term success of our youth. Be proud of who you are, Arizona.
