More than 7,000 children are in Arizona’s foster care system right now. They need families who will show up for them. AzCA will train you, support you and walk with you every step of the way.

Become a Foster Parent

Here is what the process looks like from start to finish. Most families are licensed within 90 to 120 days.

Step 1 — Reach out to AzCA & attend an information session

Complete an interest form and we will contact you to answer your questions and walk you through the next steps. We will explain what it means to foster or adopt, what children in care need and how AzCA supports your family throughout the process.

Step 2 — Complete a DCS orientation

This is a free online orientation through the DCS website. AzCA can provide provide details and help with this step. 

Step 3 — Background check, home visit and training

AzCA guides you through fingerprinting, a home inspection and required pre-service training. This is where you really get prepared for what is ahead.

Adoption

AzCA supports families pursuing adoption in Arizona, including foster and relative adoption. 

We guide you through every step: the paperwork, the home study, the background checks and the placement process. You will not do this alone.

  • 21 years of age
  • Married or single
  • Financially stable
  • Emotionally ready for parenting
  • In good physical health
  • Free of serious DCS or criminal background
  • Flexible schedule to meet needs of children in care
  • Able to provide transportation for children
  • Willing to consider sibling groups
  • Committed to reunification with the child’s biological family

Our foster families must be approved by the state through the foster licensing process, which includes a background check, interviews, required training hours, fingerprinting and home study. This process typically takes 90-120 days to complete and begins with an initial visit to your home to review general requirements, paperwork and training.
