Agency Update: A Message from our CEO

February 12, 2024 | News

Arizona’s Children Association has been proud to be a premier provider of behavioral health services for children and families going back to 1960.  Our highly qualified staff have helped vulnerable children and families through some of the most difficult challenges they have faced.  Through all of this, AzCA has drawn upon its own limited resources to cover many of the costs not covered by our contracts.  Since 2016, AzCA has faced significant financial losses in its behavioral health programming.  AzCA has taken major, impactful steps in the past 2 years to try to address the losses we’ve encountered.  Because of the significant losses we continue to experience – we have had to take further drastic steps.  We are sad to announce that effective February 10, 2024, Arizona’s Children Association will no longer serve as a health home for behavioral health services and we will be ending our outpatient treatment programs at the following locations:

  • 1351 N Alma School Rd., Ste. 205 & 265, Chandler
  • 1420 N Greenfield Rd., Bldg. 210, Goodyear
  • 4524 N Maryvale Pkwy., Ste. 220, 260 & 280, Phoenix
  • 3636 N Central Ave., Ste. 300, Phoenix
  • 1407 McCulloch Blvd., N., Lake Havasu City

We are excited to partner with Spectrum Healthcare Group who will be serving our clients and have provided employment for many of our staff.  These decisions are never easy – but in order for us to continue to be a source of support for children and families across Arizona, we must make sound business decisions and continuing a children’s only outpatient behavioral health program is simply not a sustainable business practice in the current behavioral health system in Arizona.

AzCA providers continue to give it their all and we appreciate the ongoing support we receive from our invested contractors, caring donors, dedicated staff and most importantly the children, families and communities we have grown to love.  We are going back to our roots and focusing on our child welfare programming.  We are fortunate to be a long-time contracted provider for the Arizona Department of Child Safety and are thrilled to continue to be a statewide leader in high quality services for children involved in the DCS system.  We are honored to have recently been awarded statewide contracts for Kinship Support Services, Community Foster Care & Adoptive Services, and Extended Foster Care Services.  These new services paired with our ongoing Interstate Compact for the Placement of Children, Successful Transition to Adulthood, and Fostering Sustainable Connections contracts make us a true leader in Arizona’s child welfare system. However, we will still have some limited specialty behavioral health programming, including our Las Familias outpatient program for children who have been sexually abused, our Neurosequential Model of Caregiving services, and our Therapeutic Foster Care services.

Through all of this and with the support of our bank, our funders and the people of Arizona we intend to continue to have a positive impact and continue to meet our mission of protecting children, empowering youth and strengthening families.
